Economic Programs

Community Gardens: On the land bought for the school, we have space to plant a 2 acre-plus community garden to directly support the school's lunch program. Several crops of beans have already been planted and harvested, stored in the school storeroom and served to supplement the children's diet. Planting of other crops especially green vegetables has begun.

Coffee Production and Marketing: Au Centre is in the middle of Haiti's best coffee production area. Our goal is to wholesale our coffee at premium prices as organic shade-grown high mountain coffee, all profits going into community programs. We are currently seeking trade partners and researching the best options for roasting and marketing.

Eco Tourism: Macaya Peak is a two-day hike from Au Centre through beautiful valleys, rushing streams with bathing pools, and through coffee growing villages rarely seen by outsiders. We'll build comfortable thatch structures to accommodate visitors. A visit to this friendly village is an amazing experience. The new road under construction now (Spring 2009) will allow much easier access to the village. Your company, organization or group could sponsor a guest cottage... contact us for details!
